Lucy Ly was born and raised in New York and is of Vietnamese descent. She has an older sister and three step-siblings. At age 12, she started taking photographs and would later have her images featured in publications like The New York Times, Rookie Magazine, and Nylon Magazine. In Middle School, she co-created Loser Zine, an independent art zine, with her friend Olivia Wein, which provided an outlet for other creatives to showcase their work. Lucy attended Brooklyn Technical High School, where she studied law and helped launch a movie watching club offering screenings of many feature films. During this time, she worked part-time at East Village Vintage Collective, selling vintage clothing and items like old Playboy and Star Wars trading cards. After commencing from high school in 2020, she began attending Occidental College, studying Media Arts and Culture. Lucy is very passionate about films and the movie-making process. She aspires to work in the film industry one day and to create visually compelling stories. In her downtime, she loves to listen to music, take photos, cook, watch movies, travel, and is a huge fan of amusement parks.
